BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China saw the newly-added wetland area reach over 3 million mu (about 200,000 hectares) during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), with the wetland protection rate exceeding 50 percent, official data showed.
Data from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration showed that China added 15 wetlands that are of international importance, 29 national-level important wetlands and 201 national wetland parks during the period.
An official with the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said that China has ramped up efforts in advancing the wetland protection and restoration, enhancing wetland ecosystem and maintaining wetland biodiversity during the period in a bid to comprehensively improve the level of China's wetland protection and restoration.
According to the official, a total of 9.87 billion yuan of investment from the central government budget was arranged for wetland protection during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, covering more than 2,000 wetland protection and restoration projects.
