BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The sales of 5G mobile phones in China is expected to account for 75-odd percent of the overall mobile phone sales throughout the year, reported Securities Daily Monday quoting Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
According to Wu, the sales of China's mobile phone market may exceed a trillion yuan in 2021.
Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that from January to November this year, the mobile phone shipments in China's domestic market totaled 281 million, with that of 5G mobile phones registering 144 million, accounting for 51.4 percent of the total.
In November only, the 5G mobile phone shipments in the Chinese market took up 68.1 percent of the total mobile phone shipments in the same period, CAICT data showcased.
Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, once said at the opening ceremony of the 2020 World 5G Conventionheld November 26 in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, that 253 types of terminals have gained access to the internet in China with 218 of them were 5G mobile phones.
5G has become the standard configuration of mainstream mobile phone models and will penetrate 90 percent of the new mobile phone models in 2021, said Yang Fan, director of the Terminal and Entrance Application Center with Analysys International, a market research firm.
Nowadays, China is leading the world in 5G development. According to data from the global market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), the 5G mobile phone shipments around the globe may reach about 240 million in 2020, while more than 160 million of them may be contributed by China, accounting for about 67.7 percent of the total, and China will continue to take about half of the global market share in the next five years.
China's 5G mobile phone market is an important market around the globe and for domestic mobile phone manufacturers, holding absolutely-dominant position among global mobile phone markets, said Zhou Xibing, a research fellow with the Research Center for Soft Power of Chinese Local Enterprises.
Zhou noted that in the future, especially after the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China's 5G mobile phone users will usher in an important wave of replacement during which the world mobile phone landscape will undergo major changes.
It's learned that in order to take a larger share in the 5G mobile phone market, leading Chinese mobile phone makers are stepping up efforts in research and development of related chips.
