BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- China will improve the competitiveness of its industrial chain in the global industrial chain and supply chain at a faster speed by promoting the manufacturing upgrading and the development of high-tech and emerging, competitive industries, according to an official.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, efforts will be made to build a number of national manufacturing innovation centers in key fields and strengthen the equipment renewal and technical renovation of enterprises to enhance the anti-risk capabilities and competitiveness of the industrial chain, said Wang Zhijun, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

He added that in order to improve China's status and competitiveness in the global industrial chain and supply chain, efforts should be made to develop critical and basic technologies, materials, basic parts, advanced basic technologies and industrial basic software.

In the next five years, there will be more and more high and new technologies entering the stage of large-scale industrialization and commercialization in China.

MIIT will expedite efforts in building emerging industrial chains involving 5G, integrated circuits, industrial Internet, artificial intelligence, intelligent connected vehicles, new materials, bio-medicine and high-end medical devices, etc., Wang noted.

Efforts will also be made to accelerate the building of an emerging industry ecosystem, cultivating a batch of enterprises with strong creativity, taking high share in the market segments and mastering key and core technologies, Wang added.
