SHIJIAZHUANG, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's benchmark power coal price rose slightly during the past week.
The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI), a gauge of coal prices in north China's major ports, stood at 582 yuan (about 89.07 U.S. dollars) per tonne Wednesday, a rise of 4 yuan week on week, according to the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co., Ltd.
Analysts said the supply and demand of coal in the Bohai-Rim area continued to be unbalanced in winter, a peak season for coal consumption. Weaker-than-expected supply from major coal producing areas and tight supply of imported coal have combined to lead to the price rise.
Released by the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd. every Wednesday, the BSPI is a leading indicator of China's coal prices. Enditem
