BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The intelligent transport sector in China is on fast track and multiple links of the industrial chain are embracing new opportunities, reported Economic Information Daily Wednesday.

A white paper on China's sustainable transport development released Tuesday proposes to pushing forward the development of digital economy and sharing economy industries, as well as the interconnected innovation of related modes, business, products and services by constructing intelligent transport.

Insiders point out that in the future the application scenarios of intelligent transport will further increase with related construction setting off a greater upsurge, and the opportunities in related industrial chains such as Internet of Vehicles (IoV) will multiply.

-- Intelligent transport steers into fast lane

According to the white paper, China's intelligent transport is developing rapidly, with the full integration of the new-generation information technology with transport management and services being fostered, the intelligent development of related infrastructure and equipment making constant breakthroughs, and the demonstrative application of drones in the express delivery sector being promoted, etc.

Data showed that by the end of 2019, 229 airports and major airlines in China achieved "paperless" travel, and the number of ETC (electronic toll collection) customers nationwide exceeded 200 million.

The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has been widely applied in the transport sector.

There have been 7.6 million road operating vehicles, 33,300 postal express trunk vehicles, 1,369 official ships of ministry systems, 10,863 water navigation aids, 109 coastal foundation reinforcement stations, 352 general aircraft and three transport aircrafts throughout China adopting BDS.

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway has become the world's first intelligent high-speed railway that uses BDS and realizes autonomous driving and other functions.

Besides, the application of smart highways is gradually deepening, technologies such as smart ports and smart shipping are widely used, and smart delivery facilities are available in major cities across the country.

Next, efforts will be made to promote the application of artificial intelligence, 5G, blockchain as well as new energy and new material technologies in the transport sector, and support the innovative development of the industrial modes, products and services of the sector, noted Liu Xiaoming, vice minister of transport.

-- Many links of the industrial chain welcome new opportunities

As a key part of intelligent transport, intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) involving intelligent vehicles, autonomous driving, vehicle-road collaboration have seen multiple favorable policies this year.

According to an updated technology roadmap on ICVs released November this year at the 2020 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference in Beijing, by 2025, China's sales of ICVs of PA (partially autonomous driving) and CA (conditionally autonomous driving) levels may account for over 50 percent of its total vehicle sales that year, and the new vehicle C-V2X (Cellular-Vehicleto Everything) assembly rate may reach 50 percent.

It also says that by 2030, the sales of level 2 and level 3 ICVs may take up 70-odd percent of the total vehicle sales, with level 4 ICVs widely used in expressways and used in some cities on a large scale, and by 2035, various types of high-speed ICVs may be widely used.

Many auto companies will realize mass production of level 3 and level 4 intelligent driving vehicles in 2020 and 2021, and the penetration rate of these levels may respectively reach 10 percent and 2 percent in 2025 and soar to 18 percent and 9 percent in 2030, forecast Hua Chuang Securities.

According to data from China Center for Information Industry Development with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Qianzhan Industry Research Institute, from 2016 to 2019, the compound annual average growth rate of China's ICV industry was 16.14 percent, and the figure will register 25 percent from 2020 to 2025, with the market space hitting 219 billion yuan by 2025.

Driven by related technologies, electric and intelligent development of vehicles may become a big trend, and smart cockpit, new energy thermal management, lightweight and other fields will embrace opportunities of localization, a report of TF Securities has said.

Besides, with the support of transport and new infrastructure policies, the construction of smart expressways and smart ports will receive a bigger boom.

According to incomplete statistics, as of November 30, the Ministry of Transport has unveiled work plans of 23 out of 34 pilot units of building China into a transport power, which contain more smart expressway projects and digital infrastructure projects.
