China approves pilot programs of leading firms on smart transportation

Abstract : China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) has recently approved pilot programs of the four leading companies on building the country's strength in transportation, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) has recently approved pilot programs of the four leading companies on building the country's strength in transportation, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday. 

From the pilot programs of these companies including China Mobile, China Post, China COSCO Shipping and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), 5G and smart transportation are keywords, signaling huge opportunities in the intelligent upgrade of the domestic transportation industry. 

According to the pilot program of China Mobile, the country's leading telecom operator will join hands with other enterprises and institutions to build a batch of ubiquitous advanced technologies that meet the needs of smart transportation, establish a vehicle-road collaboration big data system, and complete the construction and optimization of a 5G smart port and shipping commercial network covering domestic hub locks and hub ports, in 3 to 5 years. 

It strives to achieve positive results in application of mobile cloud and big data in transportation fields such as autonomous driving and drones, build a 5G vehicle networking ecosystem, and promote the normal operation of 5G smart port and shipping business, said China Mobile. 

China Post said it aims to achieve full coverage of the smart terminals for express delivery, have its postal trunk vehicles fully equipped with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), and significantly enhance the level of big data application in the delivery business and intelligent operation of the delivery network in 3 to 5 years. 

China COSCO Shipping proposed that the application level of smart ships would be significantly improved in 3 to 5 years. 

The CCCC said in its pilot program that it will make efforts to promote the wide application of BDS in transportation infrastructure, road transportation, safe emergency shipping, engineering ships and other fields and vehicles. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
