HANGZHOU, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The China-Russia joint CR929 wide-body passenger aircraft project is going on smoothly despite COVID-19, with some 1,000 units of such type to be delivered between 2023 and 2045, its chief designer said.
Chen Yingchun, the chief designer of the project, said at the Zhejiang Aerospace Industry International Summit 2020 that the world market demand for wide-body passenger airliners is estimated at 10,000 units during the period, the value of which will account for more than 50 percent of the combined value of all passenger aircraft.
Compared with ARJ21 and C919, two aircraft types developed by China, the CR929 will have dual aisles and a longer flying range that can take trans-ocean operations, said Chen.
It will be mainly made of composite materials instead of metal, he said.
The summit was held Wednesday in Hangzhou Qiantang New Area in the provincial capital Hangzhou. Enditem
