BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- China is expected to see booming development of the ultra-high-definition (UHD) video industry, with the wide application of 5G technology on a large scale and the implementation of favorable policies, the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily reported on Wednesday.
Industry insiders note that the country's UHD video industry has a good development foundation in terms of technology, market demand, and policies. Under such circumstances, companies in the related industry chain are expected to have outstanding performances.
The National Radio and Television Administration on Monday unveiled a plan for the radio and television technology iteration during the period from 2020 to 2022, stating that efforts will be made to accelerate the development of high-definition and UHD video and 5G high-tech video, improve the 4K/8K UHD video technology standard system, and promote the application of 5G high-tech video.
In May this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a guideline for the building of the UHD video standard system.
It is worth noting that the accelerating 5G construction has laid a solid foundation for the development of the UHD video industry.
5G has a transmission rate of 1Gbps, with ultra-high network speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-large connection. It provides network speed guarantee for the transmission of UHD video in six dimensions and ensures the low latency and high image quality in the transmission process of the UHD videos, according to Huaxi Securities.
Meanwhile, in the end consumer market, the booming sales of the UHD TV sets also lend support to the development of the UHD video industry.
According to the latest data released by the MIIT, 20.79 million 4K UHD TV sets were sold on the domestic market from January to September this year, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the domestic TV sales.
Thanks to the favorable factors such as new infrastructure construction and continuous release of support policies, the country's UHD video industry will be deeply integrated with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, and cloud computing. It will achieve breakthroughs in fields like 4K/8K video cameras and image sensors, according to Jia Shanshan, deputy general manager of Research Center of Electronic Information Industry of the Beijing-based research firm CCIDConsulting.
The research firm estimated that by 2022, market scale of the UHD video industry in China will exceed 4 trillion yuan.
It is learned that the UHD video industry chain involves industries such as photosensitive devices, chips, UHD video platform services, as well as radio and television, security monitoring, medical health. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
