BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- With the successful implementation of the 5G + smart grid project in the southern Chinese metropolis of Shenzhen and other regions, the country will see the project application expanded to five provinces, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.
The project developed by China Mobile, China Southern Power Grid, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), Huawei and others is expected to yield economic benefits of more than 5 billion yuan (about 766 million U.S. dollars) after its application in these provinces.
The project has been fully applied in the three major links of power transmission, transformation, and distribution in Shenzhen, greatly improving the efficiency of grid operation.
The promotion and application of the 5G + smart grid project will bring great value.
The traditional power grid will evolve to the energy Internet and the grid operation will undergo fundamental changes in the future. The grid development is inseparable from the new generation of communication technology, according to Sun Zhengyun, Chief Information Officer of the State Grid Corporation of China.
