BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's home appliances industry is expected to pick up as local governments are encouraged to give out subsidies to consumers for purchasing green, smart home appliances and environmental-friendly furniture.
A series of measures have been revealed recently by the State Council, the country's cabinet, to boost economic recovery via stimulating domestic consumption, with subsides for home appliances included.
Buoyed by favorable policies, China's consumption market has seen a robust recovery. The total retail sales of consumer goods in October increased by 4.3 percent year-on-year, among which the retail sales growth of home appliances and furniture saw a month-on-month increase of 3.2 percentage points and 1.9 percentage points, respectively, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Wang Bingnan, Vice Minister of Commerce, told Xinhua that the measures concerning home appliances are well-targeted as the industry plays important role in consumption market.
The Ministry of Commence, together with other departments, has introduced 13 measures to improve the recycling system and promote home appliances consumption, said Wang.
He added that local governments are encouraged to stage online and offline marketing campaigns, offer subsidies for green, smart home appliances and arrange trade-ins to boost furniture and home appliances consumption.
In recent years, smart home appliances, such as dish washers and sweeping robots, have become new hits for consumers, while traditional home appliances, such as fridges, washing machines and air conditioners, have shown a slowdown in sales growth due to their high penetration in the households, said Liu Zhao, vice secretary-general of China Household Electrical Appliances Association.
