BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's lottery sales amounted 30.715 billion yuan in October, up 11.5 percent from the same period last year, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities Journal reported on Monday.
Sales of welfare lottery tickets dropped 3.2 percent year on year to 12.277 billion yuan in October, while sports lottery sales surged 24 percent to 18.438 billion yuan, data from the Ministry of Finance showed.
In the first ten months, lottery sales reached 261.397 billion yuan, down 23.9 percent year on year.
Under China's lottery management rules, money from ticket sales goes to administrative expenses, public welfare projects, and prize winnings.(Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
