BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The scale of China's core artificial intelligence (AI) sectors hit 77 billion yuan in the first half of this year, Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology said on Tuesday at an AI-themed session of the World Internet Conference - Internet Development Forum.
Liu also stated that China's AI industry has shown stronger innovation capabilities, with applications of computer vision and natural language understanding technologies leading the world.
The intelligent technology has seen faster applications in manufacturing, transportation, logistics, health care, education, energy and other fields.
A batch of products empowered by AI such as intelligent medical imaging systems, service robots, and temperature measuring systems have played a significant role in epidemic control and production resumption.
China has surpassed the U.S. and become the country with the largest number of AI patent applications, according to the China Internet Development Report 2020 released on Monday by China Academy of Cyberspace Studies. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
