BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Xi'an, capital city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, saw a surge in China-Europe freight train trips this year, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities Journal reported on Sunday.
This year, the Chang'an China-Europe freight train service had operated 3,167 trips by the end of October, 1.8 times the number registered in the same period last year, according to data from Shaanxi Provincial Department of Commerce.
Both the cargo volume and the trip number ranked first among major cities nationwide.
Since launched in November 2013, the Chang'an service has opened 15 cargo routes linking Xi'an with destinations in Asia and Europe, covering 45 countries and regions along the Belt and Road.
