BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Provinces and municipalities in east China's Yangtze River Delta region have joined hands to steadily promote high-quality development of the digital economy since the beginning of this year, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.
A report released by China Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team not long ago shows that in the past year, the level of digital economy development in the Yangtze River Delta region has steadily increased, with the total score rising from 58.3 in 2019 to 60.5 in 2020. Industrial digitization and public service digitization have strongly promoted the digital economy development in the Yangtze River Delta region.
In addition to an agreement on promoting the integration of the digital economy signed by the provinces and municipalities in June this year, they have also introduced related policies in accordance with local conditions to promote the development of the digital economy.
For example, east China's Jiangsu Province has recently unveiled a circular to deepen the development of the digital economy. The province will make efforts to advance projects, like the digital facility upgrades.
In recent years, the digital economy of Jiangsu Province has given a strong momentum.
In 2019, the scale of the digital economy in Jiangsu reached 4 trillion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of the local GDP. The province ranks top in China in terms of the level of digital economic development and the main indicators of information and communication infrastructure, according to Qi Biao, deputy head of the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission.
"The digital industry in Jiangsu has maintained steady growth this year. In the first three quarters, the province's electronic information manufacturing industry achieved sales of 1.9 trillion yuan, and the software and information service industry earned revenue of 774 billion yuan, with the growth rate both exceeding six percent," said Chi Yu, deputy director of the Industry and Information Technology Department of Jiangsu.
Zhejiang, another province in the Yangtze River Delta region, has also striven for the high-quality development of the digital economy.
In September, Zhejiang announced to create about 10 provincial-level digital economy innovation and development pilot zones, with a construction period of three years (2020-2022).
The added value of Zhejiang's digital economy reached 2.7 trillion yuan last year, an increase of 15.6 percent year on year, accounting for 43.3 percent of its GDP. The digital economy has increasingly become a gold business card in promoting the high-quality development of Zhejiang, according to Xu Xu, head of the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang.
Earlier, in August, Hefei, capital of Anhui Province in the Yangtze River Delta region, unveiled a plan for the development of digital economy from 2020 to 2025, proposing that by 2025, Hefei's digital economy will account for more than 50 percent of its GDP.
