BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The International Festival of Poetry & Liquor and the 4th liquor-themed art and culture week opened Monday in Luzhou, a city famous for its liquor industry in southwest China's Sichuan Province, aiming to spread Chinese poetry and liquor culture and promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
With the theme of "Let Poetry and Liquor Warm Everyone", the International Festival of Poetry & Liquor, co-hosted by the Luzhou municipal government and the Poetry Periodical of the China Writers Association, will launch a series of poetry and liquor cultural activities such as poetry spirit seminars, poetry media forums, and literary master classes.
Liquor making is an industry with the most profound development foundation and best competitive strength in Luzhou. The International Festival of Poetry & Liquor held in Luzhou will establish a platform for mutual enlightenments and cooperation between China and other countries on the integration of poetry and liquor culture, said Liu Yun, minister of the publicity department of Luzhou government.
At the same time, the 1573 International Poetry Prizes was unveiled during the opening ceremony. The well-known contemporary Irish poet Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin won the prize this year, who has published a number of poems showing Ireland's rich historical heritage and humanistic atmosphere.
Founded by China's famous baijiu brand Luzhou Laojiao, the 1573 International Poetry Prizes was the first poetry award named after liquor. It is an annual award to the most influential poet in the world.
Throughout history, poetry and liquor are always inseparable existences with poetry as the carrier of culture and liquor as the bond of emotion. The excellent poetry and liquor culture is an important part of traditional Chinese culture and also a wealth shared by all human beings.
As a large state-owned liquor-making enterprise, Luzhou Laojiao has been actively participating in the preparation of the International Festival of Poetry & Liquor since 2017, bringing traditional Chinese poetry and liquor culture to the world stage and promoting cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
The art and culture week will lead the public to perceive and carry forward the spirit of the times through poetry and rich literary works, making Chinese thousand-year-old poetry and liquor culture revitalize in the new era and show its charm, said Liu Miao, Chairman of Luzhou Laojiao.
In the future, Luzhou Laojiao will continue to practice its cultural mission as an excellent national brand, make more efforts and greater contributions to the exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures, presenting the excellent Chinese culture of poetry and liquor to the world.
