BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's express delivery firms handled 3.965 billion parcels nationwide during the Double 11 shopping festival which fell on November 1-11, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Security News reported on Thursday.
On November 11, the country's courier sector set a new record by handling about 675 million parcels, up 26.16 percent year on year, according to data from the State Post Bureau showed.
The State Post Bureau estimated that the sector will handle over 2.97 billion parcels from November 11 to November 16, a surge of 28 percent from the same period of last year, and daily average business volume is set to hit 490 million parcels, double the volume registered in normal days.
In a bid to cope with surging packages during the Double 11 shopping festival, China's railway authorities launched a trial express service to use high-speed trains for the delivery of online orders.
According to the State Post Bureau, the courier sector is set to enter a peak season from the beginning of November this year to the Spring Festival next year, which will fall on February 12.
