NANNING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region introduced a series of measures to boost the recovery of its culture and tourism industry severely struck by the COVID-19 pandemic, and has achieved fruitful results.
The local government allocated 342 million yuan as special funds for tourism development, and temporarily returned 153 million yuan of service quality guarantee funds to 657 travel agencies, which has provided great support for tourism enterprises to resume work. Besides, the local government also organized more than 20,000 tour guides and related personnel to conduct online training to improve service skills.
According to the statistics from the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the first three quarters of this year, Guangxi received approximately 413 million domestic and foreign tourists, 60.9 percent of the number registered in the same period last year. The total tourism consumption amounted to 460.19 billion yuan, 56.8 percent of the number in the same period last year.
During the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in October Guangxi received a total of 32.56 million tourists, 85.6 percent of what it was in the same period last year. The total consumption stood at 22.49 billion yuan, recovering 85.9 percent of the number in the same period last year.
In the meanwhile, Guangxi launched the "Winter Tour to Guangxi" event on November 5. From November 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021, tourists within and outside the autonomous region can enjoy favourable discounts in their scenic spot tickets. They can also enjoy preferential policies on performing art tickets, travel tickets, charter flights, travel trains and travel coupons.
The culture and tourism industry has become an advantageous industry and pillar industry in Guangxi, and served as a driving force for Guangxi to accelerate the transformation of the industrial structure and realize the high-quality development, said Yan Shuang, deputy director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
