BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The peak season for China's courier industry will last 103 days, from early November to next year's Spring Festival, which will fall on February 12, the State Postal Bureau (SPB) said at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to the SPB, deliveries are expected to peak during the Singles' Day shopping festival, from November 11 to 16, with a daily average of 490 million parcels expected to be delivered, twice of the volume of normal days.
In order to cope with the surging volume of deliveries, about 490,000 additional workers, 100,000 express vehicles and 5.39 million square meters of land to handle parcels are put in place. In addition, the new high-speed railway lines for parcel deliveries will also be launched, according to the SPB.
Last year, Beijing alone saw more than 130 million mail and express deliveries in the week following the Singles' Day online shopping spree, according to the municipal postal administration.
