BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China Broadcasting Network Co. Ltd. (CBN) was established on Monday in Beijing, becoming the country's fourth telecom operator after China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.
CBN will work on the integration of national cable TV networks and the building of a unified operation and management system for 5G plus radio and TV networks.
By using mobile internet, smart operation system and diverse applications, the operator will provide users with new forms of services related to 4K/8K high definition TV, virtual reality (VR) and Internet of Things (IoT).
CBN received its commercial 5G license last year at the same time as the country's big three telecom operators. The official launch of CBN is expected to boost the commercialization of 5G-based radio and TV services.
The newly established operator has a registered capital of 101.2 billion yuan. Its major shareholders include China Broadcasting Network Corporation Ltd., which operates national radio and TV networks, provincial broadcasting companies, strategic investors, and listed internet companies including the venture capital management company of Alibaba Group, according to statistics from the database query platform Tianyancha.com.
