BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's electronic information industry has resumed sound development momentum despite of the impact brought by the COVID-19, according to an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Tuesday.
The value-added output of the country's electronic information industry above designated size expanded 6.7 percent year on year during the first seven months of the year, ranking the first among all the industrial secotrs, said Ren Aiguang, deputy director of the electronic information department of the MIIT.
In recent years, China has continued to promote the development and innovation of electronic information industry. In particular, during the epidemic prevention and control period, computing technology has played a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of society and promoting economic recovery.
The operating income of the computer sector increased by 7.8 percent year on year from January to July, with the profits registering a year-on-year increase of 16.7 percent, said Ren.
In the next step, the MIIT will accelerate technological upgrading and breakthrough in artificial intelligence and supercomputing, deploy innovation chains around the industrial chain, promote the application of technology, and promote the establishement of an industrial ecosystem with computing as the core.
In order to promote the high-quality development of the electronic information industry, the People's Government of Hunan Province and MIIT will host the 2020 World Computer Congress in Changsha, capital city in central China's Hunan Province, from November 3 to November 4.
