BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the largest offshore oil and gas producer in China, announced Sunday that its Liuhua 16-2 oilfield cluster, the first self-operated deep-water oilfield cluster in China, was completed and started production.
The Liuhua 16-2 oilfield cluster project, located in the deep-water area of the South China Sea, can achieve a maximum annual output of 4.2 million cubic meters of oil and gas equivalent, which can meet one-year's gasoline consumption of more than 4 million household cars.
CNOOC has self-completed the overall design and installation of the underwater production system for the first time, according to a source with the company.
The completion and commissioning of Liuhua 16-2 oilfield cluster further refined China's deep-water oil and gas development engineering technology system with independent intellectual property rights, the source noted. (Edited by Yan Yulan, Niu Huizhe with Xinhua Silk Road, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
