BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's textile and clothing exports rose 5.62 percent year on year to 187.41 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed.
During the period, textile exports reached 104.8 billion U.S. dollars, up 31.99 percent year on year, while clothing exports dropped 15.74 percent year on year to 82.61 billion U.S. dollars.
In August, driven by constant demand for textile needed for making anti-epidemic items such as masks, China's textile exports surged 46.96 percent year on year to 14.72 billion U.S. dollars.
Clothing exports in August reached 16.21 billion U.S. dollars, up 3.23 percent year on year. It was the first positive monthly growth since the start of this year. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
