BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Since the beginning of the year, the express delivery volume in east China's Zhejiang Province has reached 10 billion pieces, which is equivalent to the total of Zhejiang's delivery volume in 2018, reported by Zhejiang Daily on Tuesday.
In the first eight months of 2020, Zhejiang has an average monthly express delivery volume of over 1.25 billion pieces. The total volume is expected to exceed 15 billion pieces throughout this year.
According to an official with Zhejiang Provincial Postal Administration, the growth rate of express delivery volume in Zhejiang in the first half of 2020 is 5.2 percentage points higher than the national average and the proportion of its delivery volume in the country increased from 17.3 percent in February to 21.4 percent in July.
In particular, the express delivery volume in Zhejiang's Yiwu continues to grow steadily. In May, Yiwu's express delivery volume has leapt to the first place among all cities in China.
According to relevant analysis, each increase of 1 yuan in express delivery business revenue can drive an increase of 7.8 yuan in online retail sales and an increase of 2.68 yuan in the total output value of consumer goods manufacturing.
In 2020, thanks to the frequent holding of e-commerce promotional activities in Zhejiang, new sales ways such as "express delivery + live streaming" have continuously created small peaks in business volume and have become a new driving force for domestic demand. Up to now, the express delivery industry has supported online retail transactions of physical goods with 1.4 trillion yuan. (Edited by Gao Jingyan with Xinhua Silk Road, gaojingyan@xinhua.org)
