BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Xiamen, a city in southeast China's Fujian Province, saw its electronic information industry scale approach 500 billion yuan in 2019, serving as the first pillar industry in the city, according to the Xiamen Electronic Information Industry Development Conference held on Monday.
Meanwhile, flat panel display has become the first sector in Xiamen that boasts an output value exceeding 100 billion yuan.
At present, electronic information manufacturing has become the core growth pole of the industry in southwestern Fujian. The research and development (R&D) and production base of touch panel module in the city is the largest in the world. LED industry chain cluster ranks the first globally. The third-generation semiconductor industry has taken the initiative to form a whole industry chain cluster covering materials, chips, devices, modules and application equipment.
Experts and industry insiders noted that with the continuous development of 5G, big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies, electronic information industry is expected to usher in new opportunities, boost local economic growth and provide a chance for Xiamen to build a new highland in electronic information industry.
