BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has built 3,667 new 5G base stations by July 24 this year, local authorities said recently, reported Xinjiang Daily Wednesday.
By far, the capital city Urumqi of Xinjiang saw the number of 5G users amounting to 234,300, realizing the coverage of 5G services in major commercial and urban areas.
Xinjiang will step up forwards in promoting the 5G construction, and it is expected to achieve the full coverage of 5G services in all prefecture-level downtown areas by the end of the year, and the continuous 5G network coverage in all the urban areas are expected by 2021.
In addition to the 5G construction, Xinjiang will beef up the development of intelligent manufacturing this year, concerning artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data, according to the local authority.
