BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in south China witnessed 94 trips made by the China-Europe freight trains as of July 22 this year, up 15 percent year on year, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd.

The whole journey is more than 11,000 kilometers and the freight train can transport more than 1,200 tons of materials abroad in one trip, which is more than 15 days faster than the current sea freight.

Since the beginning of this year, the China-Europe freight trains in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA have been favored by domestic and foreign cargo owners.

At present, more than 100 domestic and international logistics companies have joined hands with the China Railway Guangzhou Group to transport the industrial products and agricultural products by the freight trains.

A China-Europe freight train loaded with high-quality light industrial products of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA departed from a railway station in Guangzhou on July 22, and it is expected to arrive in Moscow, the capital of Russia, in 15 days.

The number of China-Europe freight trains rose significantly during the first half of this year, with a total of 5,122 trains being put into operation, up 36 percent year on year, according to the China State Railway Group.

The freight trains have played a crucial role in helping with the global fight against the COVID-19 epidemic as massive quantities of medical supplies were sent by them to affected countries and regions. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
