BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- As a result of the outbreak of COVID-19, new business models such as online retail, online education, video conferencing and telecommuting keep emerging, which has ensured the normal operation of society, promoted the technological innovation of big data, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain, and effectively offset the downward pressure on the economy.
Amid normalized COVID-19 prevention and control, digital technology is bound to build a new industrial ecology, stimulate innovation vitality, and become a new engine for economic development.
In recent years, China's digital technology has gained growth momentum, with extensive penetration into the fields of production and public governance.
According to the statistics released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) in July, the value-added of China's digital economy registered 35.8 trillion yuan in 2019, accounting for 36.2 percent of the country's GDP, up by 1.4 percentage points compared with the previous year.
Experts believe that digital economy will accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation of industries and help spread advanced technologies, which will create new opportunities for economic development.
Meanwhile, digital economy will promote industrial transformation and upgrading and help realize the digitalization of the entire process including research and development (R&D), design, production and processing, operation management, sales and service.
Digital economy is of great significance to the high-quality development of economy. It can help activate the innovation ecosystem, greatly reduce intermediate links, effectively hedge against rising labor costs, improve production efficiency and reduce pressure on resources and environment.
China has unique advantages for the development of digital economy. It boasts a large-scale market with more than 900 million netizens, which is the largest number in the world. Relying on the world's most complete and largest industrial system and over 100 million market entities, the construction of industrial Internet can give a full display of the advantages of economies of scale. In addition, China enjoys the advantage of massive data resources, with huge potential for data mining and data development.
To facilitate the development of digital economy, experts hold that it is necessary to strengthen strategic planning, gain broad participation from market players, and form a joint force between government and enterprises in this regard.
Efforts should be made to increase investment in digital technology, and make great breakthrough in the key technical issues such as basic software, high-end chips and core components.
It is critical to accelerate the digital transformation of manufacturing industry and the development of industrial Internet, make leading enterprises give a full display of their demonstration role in digital transformation.
