World heritage Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City promotes integrated development of culture and tourism

Abstract : As a heritage newly inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City located in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, has been actively promoting integrated development of culture and tourism in recent years and developing its own intellectual property based on heritage preservation.

BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- As a heritage newly inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City located in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, has been actively promoting integrated development of culture and tourism in recent years and developing its own intellectual property based on heritage preservation.

The Liangzhu ruins with a total heritage and buffer zone area of 114 square kilometers in Yuhang District, in the north of Hangzhou, is considered an important representation of early urban civilization.

After becoming a new world heritage in 2019, the radiation and agglomeration effect of the Liangzhu ruins site have become increasingly prominent. The data shows that the total number of tourists in Liangzhu has increased by 23.5 percent in 2019, reaching more than 4.31 million person-times.

At the same time, the attraction for invesment in culture and tourism projects has entered into a peak period. As the core area of Liangzhu ruins and the location of the ancient city's peripheral water conservancy system, Pingyao Town saw 22 new restaurants and accommodations opened and 9 related enterprises and cultural and creative units established there in 2019.

Li Hua, Secretary of the Party Committee of Pingyao Town, said that Pingyao Town is expected to use culture as a core element for development in the future, attract more investment and culture and tourism projects to gain residents' income and enhance their happiness.

In addition, Pingyao Town has established the culture and tourism integration development alliance, linking merchants, enterprises, governments and other parties to achieve resource sharing and common development. At the same time, it signed cooperation agreements on culture and tourism promotion with more than 20 travel agencies and also allowed businesses in town to cooperate with each others to achieve mutual benefit and win-win, Li added.

Over the past year, with Liangzhu ruins and Liangzhu museum as important nodes, various tourist routes have also been formed in the area.

In terms of digital development, a comprehensive industrial pattern with games, animation, film and television and other digital cultural industries as the core development direction is taking shape in Liangzhu digital cultural community. At present, more than 60 high-quality enterprises have gathered there, among which there are more than 30 leading enterprises and projects.

In the future, Liangzhu culture will be better fit into the development trend of the digital age, creating Liangzhu's own intellectual property and achieving higher quality and integrated culture and tourism development.

As an important witness of the five-thousand-year Chinese civilization, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City in Hangzhou, which date back 5,300 years, were inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 9, 2019, during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Baku, Azerbaijan.  (Edited by Gao Jingyan with Xinhua Silk Road, gaojingyan@xinhua.org)
