BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- China will not change the courier sector's target for 2020 which is expected to see 74 billion parcels handled in total, reported Shanghai Securities News Friday.
As business activities resumed, the business volume of the sector saw an average growth rate of 22.5 percent in H1, almost the same as the average level of last year, according to Hu Kai, deputy director of Development & Research Center of the State Post Bureau.
In the first quarter of 2020, the courier sector has quickly realized the work and production resumption which took only one month to realize the business volume growth from negative to positive. In the second quarter, some 240 million parcels were handled every day, equal to the highest level during the same period in 2019, Hu added.
According to Hu, the courier industry has overcome the impact of the epidemic and realized the robust growth of business volume for three reasons which are the rapid resumption of the industry's work and production, the accelerated transfer to online platforms of China's consumer market and the rapid business growth in markets of third- and fourth-tier cities and rural areas.
The completion of the courier sector's target for 2020 is not only important for the development of the courier industry, but also of great significance for the smoothness of the industrial chain and supply chain, Hu said. (Edited by Gao Jingyan with Xinhua Silk Road, gaojingyan@xinhua.org)
