BEIJING, July 8(Xinhua) -- China's light industry achieved a cumulative operating income of 6.83 trillion yuan in January-May of 2020, gaining a total profit of 414.557 billion yuan, statistics from China Nation Light Industry Council revealed.
The profit rate stood at 6.07percent, an increase of 0.23 percentage point from that in the previous 4 months.
During the period, the decline in added value of light industry narrowed by 2 percentage points from that in April. Major sectors of light industry carried on the recovering trend in May. Industries such as bicycles, food, daily chemicals, plastics, light industry machinery saw positive growth in added value. Among the 92 light industrial products, 46 varieties have witnessed increases in their output.
The profits of agricultural and sideline food, bicycle, plastic products, and papermaking industries grew fast in January-May, with a year-on-year growth rate of more than 10 percent.
The recovery of light industry can be attributed to warming consumer market and favorable policies, said Zhang Chonghe, head of the China National Light Industry Council.
