BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) – After 24 days of journey, China-Europe freight trains loaded with 86 TEUs with about 257 tonnes of anti-coronavirus supplies, including 25.05 million face masks and 400,000 protective suits arrived in Madrid, Spain on June 29, reported People's Daily Wednesday.
The freight trains departed from the city of Yiwu, a small-commodity distribution center in east China's Zhejiang Province on June 5.
These medical supplies provide guarantee for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic in Spain and creating a safe environment for local employees returning to work and production, according to DSV, the Spanish consignor of the freight train, adding that the China-Europe freight trains are more reliable and convenient in medical supply transportation.
Statistics show that as of the end of June, a total of 294 China-Europe freight trains had run between Yiwu and Madrid this year, with cargo volume surging 117.1 percent to 24,466 TEUs.
Wu Haitao, Chinese ambassador to Spain, said that the medical supply freight services mark an essential move for the China-Europe freight train to help Spain in fighting against the epidemic and to strengthen the international cooperation against the pandemic.
Wu added that the freight train service offered green channels to transport essential materials amid the epidemic, ensuring a stable international supply chain and multilateral economic and trade.
The operation of the China-Europe freight train is an important practice of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, and more impetus from the freight services for the resumption of work and production in Spain will be expected, said the Chairman of the UNESCO Silk Road online platform.
