BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The first generation unit of the Hongshiyan barrier dam comprehensive water conservancy project in southwest China's Yunnan Province started operation recently after nearly six years of construction.
Located in the Hongshiyan landslide dam triggered by an earthquake near Ludian county in Zhaotong, a prefecture-level city of Yunnan, the project is the World's first barrier dam comprehensive water conservancy project.
The project integrates flood control, water supply, irrigation, power generation and other functions, and was successfully gated to store water in December 2019.
