BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Cainiao Network Technology Co., Ltd. (Cainiao), the logistics unit of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, will make efforts to double the efficiency of cross-border package delivery in the next three years, Wan Lin, president of Cainiao said at the 2020 Global Smart Logistics Summit on Tuesday.
Cainiao will ramp up investment in upgrading its logistics infrastructure to cut air-freight time to three to five days from the current seven to ten days.
Specifically, the logistics giant plans to add another 1,000 chartered flights for exports in the next nine months, and expand overseas warehouse network to two million square meters over the next three years so that Chinese merchants can prepare goods in advance for overseas consumers, thus cutting delivery time.
The company will prioritize its globalized development in the next three years, with the goal of realizing delivery anywhere in China within 24 hours and across the globe within 72 hours. So far, it has built logistics facilities in countries such as Thailand, Russia, Spain, and the United States.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the firm has sent over 130 million parcels of medical supplies to 150 countries across the world. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, silviasu07@163.com)
