China speeds up development of intelligent automobiles

June 22, 2020

Abstract : China is speeding up the development of intelligent automobiles as many automobile makers have turned to the application of intelligent technologies in the automobile production.

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China is speeding up the development of intelligent automobiles as many automobile makers have turned to the application of intelligent technologies in the automobile production.

On Sunday, Chongqing Changan Automobile, one of major automobile makers in China, unveiled its new intelligent SUV model, UNI-T.

Industry insiders note that driven by factors such as market demand, technological progress and development environment, the pace of intelligent car applications is continuously accelerating in China, and technologies such as 5G and Internet of Vehicles (IOV) have become the focus of development.

It is worth noting that the policies have also played an important role in promoting the intelligent automobile applications.

Since March, central authorities including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Standardization Administration have successively issued relevant documents on the development of intelligent vehicles, automatic driving, and intelligent infrastructure construction, which has quickened the pace of the automobile intelligence.

Meanwhile, local governments have also rolled out measures to accelerate the application of intelligent cars. Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shandong, Hebei, Guangdong, Sichuan and other provinces and cities have made efforts in terms of the  infrastructure construction, technology research and development, standard formulation, and industrial chain ecological construction to promote all-round development of the intelligent vehicles.

Some institutions predict that by 2022, the global IOV market will grow by 270 percent, and the automatic driving and transport service market size will reach 500 billion U.S. dollars in 2030, showing the huge development potential.
