BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou city in south China's Guangdong province will promote implementation of digital new infrastructure projects involving a total investment of nearly 500 billion yuan in 2020.
Construction of projects concerning 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers will be prioritized in the city.
In 2020, Guangzhou will strive to realize the full coverage of 5G networks across the city, construct smart light poles and hit the target of building 41,000 charging piles, according to Guangzhou municipal government's work report this year.
The city has seen the signing of 73 major digital new infrastructure projects in May. These projects with about 180 billion yuan of investment mainly covered areas such as 5G, AI, data centers, industrial Internet, and intelligent charging piles.
Last year, Guangzhou stepped up efforts to foster strategic emerging industries, resulting in a 7.5 percent year-on-year increase in the added value of the industries. A number of major industrial projects were put into production, and 20,200 5G base stations were built. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, silviasu07@163.com)
