BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- New investors increased by 1.64 million on Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses in April, up 7.14 percent from the same period last year, but down 13.26 percent from March.
By the end of April, the total number of securities investors stood at 164.98 million, up 8.48 percent year-on-year, according to the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation.
The total settlement hit 120.44 trillion yuan (about 17 trillion U.S. dollars) in April, up 3.06 percent year-on-year.
Stocks on the two bourses have shown resilience against the COVID-19 impact with key indices up at the end of April from the end of March.
At the end of April, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) Composite Index closed at 2,860.08, up 109.79 points, or 3.99 percent, month-on-month, said the People's Bank of China in an online statement.
The Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) Component Index closed at 10,721.78 points at the end of April, up 759.47 points (or 7.62 percent) from the end of March.
In April, the daily average turnover was 241.51 billion yuan on the Shanghai bourse, down 29.31 percent month-on-month, and 386.29 billion yuan on the Shenzhen bourse, down 26.64 percent month-on-month. Enditem
