China's Xiamen sees 100 China-Europe cargo trains depart for Europe

May 13, 2020

Abstract : A cargo train loading with 398 tonnes of goods, including electronic devices and clothes as well as anti-virus supplies recently left Xiamen in eastern China for Hamburg, German, making the total number of cargo trains from Xiamen to 100 this year, reported China News Service Tuesday.

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- A cargo train loading with 398 tonnes of goods, including electronic devices and clothes as well as anti-virus supplies recently left Xiamen in eastern China for Hamburg, Germany, making the total number of cargo trains from Xiamen to 100 this year, reported China News Service Tuesday.

The time of running the 100th freight trains in Xiamen was two months earlier than that of last year, said the Xiamen customs.

Goods delivery by sea and air transport were restrained due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Xiamen and elsewhere across China, while the stable operation of China-Europe freight train services remained a reliable transportation channel amid the epidemic, according to the local customs.

In March this year, a total of 33 China-Europe freight trains had departed Xiamen in Fujian Province, transporting 2,985 TEUs of goods, up 153.3 percent and 222.1 percent respectively over the same period last year, according to the local customs.

Xiamen customs had put joint efforts with transportation departments in improving loading efficiency, and enhancing communications between enterprises and railway departments, to expand the transport capacity of the freight trains.

By far, the China-Europe freight train in Xiamen had transported a total of 9,094 TEUs of goods valuing 359 million U.S. dollars, with a year on year increase of 143 percent and 157 percent, respectively, said the local customs.
