InfoQuest, (April 29, 2020) -- Government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat revealed that the cabinet approved the 2/2020 meeting resolution of the review committee on the use of loans submitted by the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC). The review committee analyzed and reviewed projects proposed by the Ministry of Finance to provide assistance, relief and compensation to the general public, farmers and business operators affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and approved two of them.
The first one is the project launched by the Ministry of Finance to assist, relieve and compensate people affected by the pandemic. The project will provide assistance to a target population of up to 16 million people with handouts valued at 240 billion baht. No more than 170 billion baht of the pandemic relief and economic and social recovery funds borrowed under the authorization of the Ministry of Finance according to the loan decree 2020 will be allocated for the project.
Under the project, 5,000-baht handouts per month will be granted for three months from March 24 to June 30.
The second project is in the charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, aiming to provide assistance, relief and compensation for farmers affected by the pandemic. The project will distribute a total of 150-billion-baht handouts to up to 10 million farmers, and will use up to 150 billion baht of the pandemic relief and economic and social recovery funds borrowed under the authorization of the Ministry of Finance according to the loan decree 2020.
The project will directly distribute 5,000-baht handouts per month, which will last for three months (May-July), and no more than 10 million farmers will receive the benefits, including 8.43 million farmers registered with the Department of Agriculture Extension, the Department of Livestock and the Department of Fisheries, and 1.57 million farmers whose registration information is under review. The total amount of the project is capped below 150 billion baht.
