BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Ji'an City in east China's Jiangxi Province has innovated epidemic prevention and control mechanisms in communities to fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19).
-- Prevention and control in communities
Ji'an has adopted various mechanisms to achieve effective isolation in communities, blocks, residential units and households.
The city emphasizes "don't go out", requiring people to stay at home.
It also stresses "don't get in", asking community workers and volunteers to stay outside the houses of people in quarantine when delivering daily necessities.
Residents are supposed to pick up items needed after community workers and volunteers drop them off and leave. Such a way can minimize the chance of face-to-face contact.
Garbages are also disposed in a contactless manner. Residents put garbage bags at doorsteps, and community workers and volunteers will take them away for further disposal.
Since the mechanism was implemented, the community workers have helped satisfy the daily needs of more than 50,000 people in quarantine in the city.
Ji'an also made it clear that during the self-isolation period, people should keep separate from their family members.
In terms of community administration, Ji'an attached great importance to entry and exit management. People going in and out of communities will have their body temperature checked and personal information reported for epidemic prevention and control.
Cleaning and disinfection in communities as well as classification and scientific disposal of garbages are also deployed in Ji'an to guaranttee a safer environment for residents.
-- Strengthening quarantine
Ji'an established an epidemic control mechanism over people from Wuhan who have returned to or are returning to Ji'an and their close contacts.
From January 23 to January 31, by adopting differentiated quarantine methods, the city effectively isolated more than 50,000 people from Hubei Province, the epicenter of COVID-19, and their close contacts, thus controlling the source of infection, preventing the spread of the epidemic and achieving an overall low incidence rate. Since February 14, no suspected cases were reported in Ji'an.
In response to the changing epidemic prevention and control situation, Ji'an adjusted its differentiated quarantine measures to cover the close contacts of confirmed cases and suspected cases, overseas returnees, new comers from areas hit hard by the epidemic and their close contacts.
As of March 13, of the 472 overseas returnees entering Ji'an city, 149 had a history of traveling to or living in epidemic-stricken countries, and 135 were still in quarantine.
In the meantime, Ji'an also optimized control over the dynamic flow of people.
On the basis of controlling the overall mobility and reducing unnecessary going-out and gathering, Ji'an supports the move of workers for production and business resumption.
-- Joint prevention by community workers and officials
In the downtown area of Ji'an city, where is home to 600,000 permanent residents, there are only 350 community workers and 630 out of the 758 residential quarters have no property management workers.
Community management staff and officials from municipal- and county-level departments, and CPC members have joined hands to replenish manpower for epidemic prevention work.
As of March 14, 16,430 CPC members and officials have served communities in the downtown area of Ji'an and 15,770 Party members have contributed to epidemic prevention and control efforts in the communities where they live.
