MILAN, Mar. 17 (Class Editori) - If up to few weeks ago the stores’ closing in China was necessary to contain the coronavirus spread, today American and European stores are those who have to stop their activities, in particular due to the restrictions imposed by the governments. In the meantime, the Chinese ones are reopening.
In the former Celestial Empire, the decrease in the infection cases is increasingly encouraging productive activities to recover. This is happening also with Apple, for example. Because of covid-19 spread, the giant of Cupertino has closed its stores worldwide until March 27, with the only exception of 42 stores in China which were reopened on Friday.
Nike is doing the same. It has announced the closing of all its stores in the USA, Canada, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In the meantime, the company specialized in sportwear will reopen its stores in South Korea, Japan and in a part of China, the markets where the epidemic has already overcome the peak.
And in China also the boutiques of Brunello Cucinelli are reopening, after a stop of one month. This has been announced by the businessman from Umbria, by sharing a video sent by his collaborators in Shanghai, who got back to work.
Also the American group Abercrombie & Fitch has decided to temporarily suspend the activity of all its shops worldwide, with the exception of the Asia-Pacific area. If the covid-19 emergency has negatively influenced the first part of H&M financial quarter by causing a loss in revenues amounting at 24% in China, starting from March and therefore from the second quarter, the Asian country recovery would seem to become more real, while the virus spread has started to affect sales in Europe.
During the last days, the Swedish giant of fast fashion has decided to temporarily close the stores in Poland, Spain, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belgium, France and Greece in part, as well as in Austria, Luxemburg, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia and Kazakhstan. In addition, other fast fashion protagonists such as Inditex, Primark and Mango have taken similar decisions.
Overseas, the situation is similar. Since yesterday, Gap has also reduced the number of stores active in the USA and Canada by temporarily closing a thousand of them in the areas considered at higher risk of infection. Until March 28, doors will be shuttered in all the Under armour stores in the USA as well as in those of Pvh group, closed from today to March 29, in the USA and Europe. (All rights reserved)
