BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The number of bank branches in China's banking industry hit 228,000 as of the end of 2019, with 15,591 branches renovated last year, a recent report showed.
Chinese banks have installed more than 1 million automatic teller machines, which had handled transactions worth 61.85 trillion yuan (about 8.8 trillion U.S. dollars) by the end of last year, according to a report released by the China Banking Association.
China's banking sector has been improving its online services, with roughly 90 percent of banking-related activities conducted off-site in 2019, said the report.
Online transactions totaled 1.66 quadrillion yuan, while cell phone transactions climbed 38.88 percent year on year to reach 335.63 trillion yuan in 2019, according to the report.
