China to step up efforts in developing environmental protection industry

March 04, 2020

Abstract : China will beef up efforts to boost the development of the environmental protection sector, according to a guideline issued recently by the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council.

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- China will beef up efforts to boost the development of the environmental protection sector, according to a guideline issued recently by the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, China's cabinet, reported the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News on Tuesday.

Emphasis will be put on strengthening independent innovation of key environmental protection technology products, pushing up the demonstration application of the first major technical equipment on environmental protection, and improving the use of technical devices in environmental protection, said the guideline.

It also clarifies to enhance the development of leading enterprises, nurture a group of backbone enterprises, and support a batch of excellent small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the environmental protection sector.

Besides, it calls for enterprises to participate in the green Belt and Road construction, driving advanced environmental protection technology, equipment and production capacity to go global.

The encouraging policy for environmental protection equipment will benefit not only large listed companies but also environmental technology companies listed on the sci-tech innovation board (STAR market) and other non-listed SMEs with technical strength, as environmental protection equipment derive largely from innovations by SMEs, said Xue Tao, executive director with the E20 Institute of Environment Industry, an environment institute in China.
