BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhua) -- China will promote the introduction of the biosecurity law as soon as possible, according to Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference on Monday.
Some experts believe that biosecurity may be reflected to a certain extent as food security (including cereals, milk, and meat), and the agricultural sector will become a major focus for biosecurity.
At the same time, the entire food supply chain will be further standardized, traceable, and intelligent, from upstream farming and cultivation, to mid-stream transportation and cold-chain storage, to downstream sales and distribution, said the experts.
The upcoming biosecurity law will also reshape the domestic medical structure and the biological vaccines and medical informatization will be the focus, according to industry insiders.
The law will also promote development of the digital technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, as bioinformation databases are the foundation for the biosecurity.
Biosecurity mainly covers the prevention and development of new outbreaks of infectious diseases, prevention of biological terrorist attacks, defense against biological weapon attacks, protection of biological facilities, and protection of special biological resources, according to a senior official of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).
