BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- East China's Jiangxi province saw its foreign trade with countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative rise14.2 percent year on year to 102.81 billion yuan in 2019, local authority said recently at a press conference.
The province's exports to B&R countries and regions totaled 90.35 billion yuan, up 15.1 percent year on year, while its imports from them rose 8.4 percent year on year to 12.46 billion yuan, according to Nanchang Customs.
Jiangxi's total foreign trade volume reached 351.19 billion yuan in 2019, up 11.1 percent compared with the same period of 2018, said Nanchang Customs.
The province had trade relation with 233 countries and regions in 2019. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) remained Jiangxi's biggest trade partner, with trade volume reaching 58.9 billion yuan, showing an increase of 19.4 percent year on year. The European Union overtook the U.S. to be the second largest trade partner of Jiangxi. The eastern province's trade with the EU stood at 46.65 billion yuan, surging 26.7 percent year on year, while its trade with the U.S. reached 37.29 billion yuan, down 3.6 percent year on year.
The potential for trade cooperation between Jiangxi and B&R countries and regions is being unleashed. Such cooperation has become a new driving force of foreign trade growth of the province, said Huang Qifeng, director of statistics and analysis division of Nanchang Customs. (Edited by Su Dan)
