BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer personal computer (PC) market beat expectations with notebooks showing year-over-year growth in 2019, data from the global market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) showed.
IDC attributed China's better-than-expected performance to robust demand through promotions during Singles' Day, China's biggest online shopping festival.
Globally, PC shipments grew 2.7 percent year on year in 2019, the first full year of PC growth since 2011.
Chinese tech firm Lenovo has consolidated its leading position in the global PC market with a bigger share of 24.3 percent. Its PC shipments expanded over 8 percent year on year in 2019, IDC data showed.
Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing said 2019 marked the beginning of the company's new growth strategy, which focuses on the development of smart Internet of Things, smart infrastructure and smart vertical industrial applications.
The 35-year-old company rolled out a string of smart devices last year, including foldable PCs, 5G PCs and foldable smartphones.
