InfoQuest (January 14, 2020) -- A cabinet meeting approved the proposal of the Ministry of Industry to set the minimum price of sugar cane with a commercial cane sugar (CCS) sweetness level of 10 in season 2019-2020 at 750 baht per ton, which is equivalent to 97.91 percent of the expected national average sugar cane price of 766.01 baht per ton, with an increment of 45.00 baht per CCS. And the minimum rate of return for the production and sale of cane sugar in season 2019-2020 is 321.43 baht per ton, according to Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy government spokeswoman.
The Ministry of Industry hoped that sugar mills to make payments to sugar cane farmers earlier, so as to enable farmers to utilize the money to conduct businesses and generate incomes. The above rates are not the actual sugar cane prices and the minimum rate of return for the production and sale of cane sugar obtained by farmers and mills in 2019-2020 season. The cabinet had also set the minimum sugar price and the minimum return rate for the production and sale of sugar from season 20011-2012 to 2018-2019.
