BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The China-Laos Entrepreneurs' Seminar was held Tuesday in Beijing to promote bilateral enterprises' cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The seminar, co-sponsored by the China-ASEAN Business Council and the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in China, attracted more than 280 attendees including Lao officials and firm representatives from both sides to exchange cooperation intentions and related concerns.
The Lao officials introduced the economic situation, development needs, investment environment and policies, cooperation opportunities as well as investment projects in Laos at the seminar.
Xu Guowu, president of China Chamber of Commerce in Laos recommended Chinese firms the Vientiane Saysettha Development Zone in Laos, a China-Laos national cooperation project and a key project under the BRI.
It is learned that by the end of November 2019, 74 enterprises from seven countries have settled in the zone with a planned investment of over one billion U.S. dollars.
Xu also recommended Chinese firms to invest in the Vientiane modern agricultural industrial park which is expected to export 3 million metric tons (tonnes) of agricultural products annually after completion.
Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith who is visiting China also attended the seminar, calling on companies from both sides to carry out cooperation in fields like digital economy, blockchain and electronic products.
A Momorandum of Understanding was signed between the China-ASEAN Business Council and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the seminar. (Contributed by Gu Shanshan)
