InfoQuest (January 6, 2020) -- Mentioning about baht appreciation, Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha noted that the government is not standing by and doing nothing; instead, various mechanisms are monitoring the circumstances. It is important to take into account the actual conditions and specific problems of each country and the government should work to take care of all groups. Baht appreciation has presented an exciting opportunity to import cheap production materials and machinery. He has ordered MOC to control some products with inappropriate price adjustments, since the costs of some products have dropped.
Thai PM stressed that the government prefers suggestions for Thai economy, rather than pure criticism. The government has to control the overall economy and take all groups into account. A case in point is the state welfare card project, which ensures basic guarantee for low-income groups to make a living and increase income.
As for agricultural product price guarantee measures, the government has taken into account those who have not benefited. At this point, the government is studying how to ensure the price of rice in granary, which can meet the needs of people in northeast, since the same measure cannot benefit all farmers' groups. He also warned rice mill operators not to take advantage of the government's rice guarantee program to lower rice price below market price and to ask for government compensation for the price gap. We have to be responsible persons and consider national interests despite meager profit. Taking advantage of the program to benefit oneself constitutes unpatriotic behavior.
Besides, the Ministry of Finance planned to submit assistance measures for SMEs at the cabinet meeting tomorrow (January 7). There are still many other rules that make government aid unavailable to SMEs, thus affecting their capacity and competitiveness, and forcing them to lay off employees. In the past, SMEs have shown slow development. Therefore, it is necessary to promote the all-round development of enterprises and employees. Meanwhile, the government will also support SMEs at the risk of bankruptcy and upgrade and enable them to produce products that meet market demands.
