Germany's Volkswagen Group sold 586,400 vehicles carrying its core VW badge worldwide during the month of November, the company reported from its Wolfsburg headquarters on Wednesday.
The figure was 3.9 per cent up on the year. In its home market, VW delivered 54,800 vehicles, up more than a fifth.
In its most important market, China, VW sold 316,700 vehicles, up 4 per cent on the year and bucking the general downward trend in that market.
Strong demand for SUVs drove a rise of 9.1 per cent in the United States to 29,200 vehicles. The total, while lower than that in other VW markets, was the best November in the US since 2016, VW said. More than half the VWs sold in the US are SUVs.
Central and Eastern Europe showed a decline of 2.9 per cent.
While global automotive markets are currently weak, VW's share has risen over recent months, according to company figures.
Over the first 11 months of 2019, deliveries were down 0.7 per cent on the year to 5,663,100 vehicles.
