On October 24, 2018, the Space Spirit in China—Tingyi Food Safety Science Popularization Exhibition held by the Tang West Market Museum entered the third day in the time-honored city of Xi'an. As of the day, this popular exhibition had received nearly 10,000 visits. Based on novel VR technology, this exhibition aims to provide young people with space interaction experience, rich space science knowledge and remarkable space achievements to inspire more of them to explore the space.
--- Interesting science popularization activities inspire teenagers to explore the space
Seeing those good-looking spacecraft devices developed by China like "Long March 2F", " Long March 5", China's first lunar rover "Yutu", "Chang'e-3" probe model and "Beidou Satellite Navigation System", these students started to share what they knew about aerospace with their classmates. During the tour, the guide gave a brief introduction to China's aerospace history, China's aerospace achievements like Two Bombs and One Satellite and Long March rocket family, and some knowledge about space station, space interaction, satellite application and deep space exploration. Through this, these students had a more comprehensive understanding of a lot of space applications such as weather forecast and navigation.
Among others, the VR interactive experience devices "Fun Space" and "Explorer" were most popular among students. By experiencing the stimulated process from launching to landing in the simulated returning module of Shenzhou spaceship, they can feel the shock at launch, the motion of hull acceleration, rotation, deceleration and landing experienced by astronauts during flight. More excitedly, they can feel what is like to weigh only 1/6 of what they weigh on the earth through the simulated moon landing experience. With these experience activities, students who can only learn about space knowledge through books and images generally seemed to embark on a "real" space travel.

In addition to a brief introduction to China's space development and achievements that inspires both the sense of pride and the interest in space of teenagers, interactive experience of space technology applications in daily life was another great highlight of this exhibition, such as futurist noodle shop with a star-studded canopy, simulated Tingyi-Kangba Noel Space Breeding Demonstration Base on a sand table and food safety popular science activities. Featured by DIY experience, these activitiesenabled students to connect knowledge with practice and also increased the application of high technology in daily life.
One of China’s first democrats, Liang Qichao, ever said, "If the youth are strong, society will be strong". For our teenagers who are soaking up knowledge now, this space exhibition has taught them to "savor knowledge". Having gradually become part of "DNA" of our Chinese, the space spirit is lighting up the way to the childhood dream of exploring the space of the young generation. Shang Qingguo, president of Beijing Aerospace Exploration and Information Technology Research Institute, said, "This Space Spirit in China exhibition is aimed at celebrating Chinese history and spirit. In the eyes of many kids today, space technology is very far away from their life and very mysterious. Actually, space technology is right around us. Many applications are benefiting us in our daily life, such as weather forecast and navigation. This space exhibition held in our country can meet the needs of as many people as possible to gain more insights into how China's space has developed to where it is today and can also boost our national self-confidence."
Dedicated to China's space cause, the "Space Spirit in China" exhibition was hosted by Tingyi and Xinhua News Agency National Brand Project under the widespread support of China Space Foundation, China Children's Development Service Center and other organizations. In addition, Tingyi's Space Dream Experience Camp is also a nationwide recruitment activity dedicated to space. Featured by first-hand tours to mysterious, charming space bases, face-to-face talks with big-name space heroes and exciting chances to have participants' personal works launched into the space with aircraft, this camp activity aims to extend support to teenagers who have a dream of exploring space.
